Version 27.0 is the first major upgrade to Finale since the v26 release in October 2018, and the first update of any sort in nearly a year. First I'm not sure if this is in the correct section.Today MakeMusic released version 27 of Finale, its flagship music notation software. I couldn't find another fitting forum except for maybe sheet music where it looks like I'm not allowed to post, so I'll leave it here. Please move it if you find a better place for this topic, I didn't want to revive the old Finale Notepad Tutorial Sticky. So today I wanted to try the program Finale Notepad 2012 for creating sheet music (from MIDI) for the first time. I tried to follow the tutorial here on TON section, which wasn't quite possible, so I took an MP3 file from a games soundtrack and used an internet converter to convert it into a MIDI file.ġ) The result in Finale Notepad was quite a mess and so I thought I'd ask you about it. In the tutorial it is explained that you can separate the track containing the melody from the other tracks. What do I do if the melody seems to be contained in a single track, but there are many other notes "interfering" and looking like they don't belong there, much higher and/or lower than the parts of the melody I can hear. How could I do a "clean up" in the simplest way possible? Should I try another MIDI version, could the converted one be messed up? That would be my guess.Ģ) Another thing I don't understand is, how can I make notes stand closer to each other, so that I could fit a simple tune on one page? In my first "try" I got like five pages for a simple melody.ģ) How can I change the pitch of the whole piece, e.g. move the whole piece a step or a note up or down on the lines? I looked up the keyboard shortcuts in the Finale Notepad Help here, but they don't seem to work. Also I can't view the example pictures in the tutorial as it looks like they're outdated.Ĥ) How can I remove a staff? If I create a new file there are two staves, one for treble clef and one for bass clef. Does anyone of you even use Finale Notepad? the bass clef? If I copy the treble clef staff into a new file, I've got a single staff (which is what I want) but too many pages (see question 2).Ĥ) On a side note, could MuseScore be easier for a beginner to use? And does it even do what I want (create sheet music from MIDI), or can you just re arrange sheet music with it? I didn't find the matching piece of information for this question on the internet. I'm sorry if this thread is a mess, I still hope you can help me.Įdit: Forgot to add, I'm running Finale Notepad 2012 (free version 2012.r1) on a Win10 64-bit notebook, if that helps.ġ) From what I understand about midi, I imagine that indeed the conversion from a MP3 to a midi is the tricky part. CHANGE TIME SIGNATURE FINALE NOTEPAD PLUSĪfter all, in a mp3, the sound of all instruments are mixed together, you have instruments playing in sync and so many things that will mess up with automated algorithms.Ģ) I don't know Finale Notepad, but on musescore, you have three options (in menu, plus one with arrows, see 3) to transpose notes you select (so you can transpose everything or just parts). Besides, you can also change the staff at the beginning of the line. For instance, I almost always a treble clef with a little "8" on top to notice that the notes are one octave higher, so that I play on the save pitch as the program, and most of the range fits on the staff rather than on ledger lines.ģ) See the transpose part. On Musescore, you can also transpose by selecting parts or the whole music sheet and pressing up or down to transpose, each time you press up or down, the melody is transposed a semitone up or down. CHANGE TIME SIGNATURE FINALE NOTEPAD PLUSĪlso, this can help correcting individual notes.Ĥ) Once again, I don't know Finale Notepad, but yes Musescore let you open Midi files, and you have directly the music sheet from there.Īnd I'm sorry not being able to help with Finale Notepad, maybe it is a great program, but I only know Musescore for the moment.
